Message to the Gatekeepers

The Anatomy of the Tollbooth

  1. Gatekeeping the Desperate: Religious bureaucracy insists that you can only encounter truth through their credentialed seminaries, their catechisms, their approved lectionaries, and their interpretive oversight. They treat the scriptures like toxic radioactive waste that only "certified handlers" have the safety gear to touch. But Christ’s own interactions were almost exclusively with people who were operating outside the institutional sanitation zone: tax collectors, outcasts, prostitutes, and lepers who bypassed the Sanhedrin entirely because they had nothing left to lose.
  2. The "Blasphemy" of Regulating God: Presuming to dictate how the Creator of the universe is permitted to pierce through human despair is the ultimate theological arrogance. To declare, "God is only allowed to reach you systematically through our 12-point curriculum and Sunday morning itinerary," places the institution above the Spirit. When life hangs in the balance—when you are standing at the edge of relapse, suicide, or total spiritual collapse—you do not need an academic committee’s permission slip. You need an immediate, surgical reality-check.
  3. The Mirror vs. The Formula: A formulaic doctrinal curriculum is comfortable because it keeps the participant in the spectator seat. You memorize their answers, recite their creeds, and check the box. An unexpected, unfiltered encounter with a text forces a direct collision with reality. Like Augustine in the garden or your own encounter with 2 Corinthians 7 and Proverbs 27, you are not reading the text to prove an institutional argument; the text is reading you.
  4. The Proof In The Pudding:  Earthly man must fall for Heavenly man to rise up, but that day will come when the Lamb of God takes back His reign by tearing the reins away from the four horsemen. If the church had done the work it was assigned, would the Book of Revelation have even needed to exist?
